Supporter emails – June 2021

It was great to see so many people on our recent Bristol Dementia Charities Network webinar: Keeping Active with Dementia. Our next BDCN webinar is How You Can Reduce Your Risk of Dementia on 7th July 2pm-3pm.
Dr Sebastian Green will run through what you can do to reduce your risk of a dementia diagnosis. Research has shown dementia risk can be reduced by one third through improving certain lifestyle factors from mid-life. How we live can have a significant impact on how the brain changes with age.

We are delighted to have our first Young Onset Dementia CARERS Support Group in the diary for Wednesday 23rd June 7pm-8.30pm. This is for people from across Bristol, S Glos, Bath and NE Somerset, and N Somerset.
Venue to be confirmed – it’s hoped that it can be in person but if not it will still go ahead on zoom.
If you are interested in attending or supporting the group, please email office@bdaa.org.uk or phone 07741 142701.
We will also post updates in our BDAA and Denim Generation Facebook pages.

This Bristol Research Forum on Ageing: Physical activity & mental wellbeing in later life: post-pandemic recovery webinar was fascinating. Lots of important information in this recording.
I have attached the presentation slides from Charlie Foster and Jane McDermott. Jane’s presentation contains lots of hyperlinks to the content mentioned in her presentation.
You may also be interested in taking a look at the UK physical activity guidelines and infographics which Charlie referred to, plus a report he posted in the chat about the enablers and barriers to older people’s participation in strength and balance activities.

Thanks to BRACE for their latest newsletter. They have several webinars on this next month – please see here for details.

Sadly, RWA is currently closed for renovations but still lots in their newsletter.

Please help BDAA by nominating us (as Bristol Dementia Action Alliance) on the Ecclesiastical website – one charity vote per person.
Ecclesiastical is giving £1 million to charities through their Movement for Good awards. In Phase 1 – 500 charities will each receive £1,000.
As a small local charity, £1000 is a huge chunk of our annual income.
The more nominations a charity receives the greater their chance of winning, so please spread the word and ask friends to vote for BDAA.
All the details are on the link below. Thank you.
