Empathy Suit

Deerhurst Care Home, run by Brunel Care, held a training session with their staff last week using an “Empathy Suit”.

The session was run by Nicola from Alive Activities and the suit simulates what it is like to have symptoms of Parkinsons Disease, dementia and old age.

The link below explains some of its features.

Happy Days

Thank you to everyone who came to Happy Days on 2nd Feb. The entertainment from the Kooky Ukes was fantastic and got everyone joining in.
As always, our volunteers pulled out all of the stops with serving refreshments and making sure everyone was welcomed.
See you next time – Friday 1st March, 2-4pm.

Owls!

A big thank you to Owl Enlightment for visiting us at Shire Memory Cafe.
As well as being educational, we had the opportunity to hold the owls. A wonderful afternoon.

Welcome to our team!

We are so pleased to have Jeff join our small but mighty team.
Jeff has lots of experience of working with people living with dementia and their carers so a great addition.
Welcome to BDAA Jeff 😁

We say a sad farewell with all our thanks to John Moore and Sharon Parsons who have been tremendous Trustees for many years. Both have given their expertise and passion to the team and we can’t thank them enough for helping BDAA to grow these past few years. We wish them both well.

We are also delighted to welcome Jen as our new Trustee:

Jen Cave-Ayland has been a firm supporter of our work for many years. Jen has worked as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS, the voluntary sector and privately for over 25 years.  Specialising in supporting the strengths of individuals and communities, Jen uses that expertise to improve health outcomes.  As well as working professionally with those who have a dementia and their carers, Jen also has experience caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s Disease. When she is not working, Jen volunteers as a Scout Leader.  Her favourite cake is lemon drizzle.
