How to become a Dementia Friendly Church
We started off “Dementia Awareness Week” in May 2018 by launching of our “Being a Dementia Friendly Church” event at Westbury Baptist Church.
It was well supported with interesting speakers, including Rev. Dr. Margaret Goodall and Subitha Bagrihathan.
Examples of good practice were shared and a resource pack made available for those churches wishing to begin the process.
Feedback would indicate that attendees (from all denominations) found the day really useful, informative, as well as challenging.

Dementia Friendly Church was held live in 2019 and 2020.

In April 2021, we held a LOVE & LOSS – exploring questions around dementia, bereavement and grief webinar. You can view the recording of the main speakers below. You can also view the resource file on the buttons below.
In November 2021, we held MEANINGFUL WORSHIP & DEMENTIA webinar. You can view the recording below and view the worship slides and How worship can be structured to enable people living with dementia to be included and engaged, along with the Top Ten Tips.
Special Thanks to Helen for this feedback about the webinar:
I really enjoyed the Dementia Friendly Church webinar, and always find these sessions incredibly helpful and valuable, not least as a forum for sharing thoughts and experiences and increasing the feeling of solidarity amongst all us churches. I left feeling enthused to start our dementia friendly service up again, or at the very least, make changes to our main Sunday service to make things easier and more approachable for those living with dementia – all of which is great!
