People living with dementia can find it difficult to navigate their way around which can make tasks such as shopping and socialising difficult. Many stop doing activities because of this which can lead to isolation and loneliness.

We offer Premise Audits and advise of small changes that could be made to make a more welcoming and accessible environment.

For charities and third sector organisations our audits are FREE. If you have pledged to our Dementia Aware Village project, they are also free.

We ask businesses for a donation to our charity in return.

The benefits of an audit are:

  • Increased footfall for retailers
  • Increased credibility
  • If you have a dementia awareness session with the audit, you will receive a logo to add to your email and social media/website. You will also receive a window sticker to add to the front of the building
  • You will be added to a directory of dementia aware organisations

For more information about how you can receive an audit please contact us on office@bdaa.org.uk

Feedback

Having experience of providing primary care to patients with dementia for some time, we thought that our signage was clear, and our Health Centre was already configured to be dementia-friendly.  However, we were very grateful to Lisa and her colleagues for offering to audit the building and help us improve and come up to date with current best practice.  Lisa and her colleague were able to advise us of some simple improvements we could make immediately to further help our patients, and also some longer-term ideas (eg floor coverings etc) for us to take on board and to pass to the Landlord.

We have refreshed our signage in-house and Lisa was happy to come back to give us both approval and some more guidance, with the result that our Health Centre is already a better place for our patients to visit.  We look forward to working more with Lisa and her team in the future.
